Irth, featured by Apple, is more than just a digital platform; it’s a powerful tool for change, born from the vision of Narrative Nation—a champion of health equity working to rewrite the story of healthcare disparities.
Irth is designed with a purpose: to support women of color through their pregnancy and parenting journeys while challenging the systemic biases woven into maternity care. By centering the voices of those most affected, the app creates a user-driven space where individuals can share and access reviews of healthcare providers and facilities, empowering expectant mothers to make informed choices based on real experiences. Like a "Yelp for maternity care," Irth fosters a supportive community that harnesses shared stories to drive meaningful change.
The name itself carries a message. By intentionally dropping the 'B' from "birth," Irth signifies a bold commitment to removing bias from childbirth, standing for equitable, respectful care for every individual. Now, the app goes beyond being a platform for personal storytelling; it gathers and analyzes user insights to advocate for improvements in healthcare practices on a larger scale. With multilingual capabilities and a clear mission to end racism in maternity care, Irth extends its reach to a diverse audience, ensuring dignity, equity, and respect for all birthing people.
Back in 2022, Irth found itself at a crossroads. The app, initially built in native technologies for iOS and Android respectively with a backend on Ruby on Rails, struggled with continuous enhancements, developments, and new feature upgrades. Irth contact Agicent to figure out and implement a fool proof solution that will keep the smooth, scalable for new features and integrations and ofcourse without distributing the existing data and users.
Our team understood the urgency and the vision behind Irth. We listened intently to the challenges and aspirations that had shaped the app’s journey so far. With a clear roadmap in mind, we laid out a plan for a complete overhaul—from migrating data to building a new, cross-platform app using React Native and node.js in the backend.
This transformation wasn’t just about fixing what was broken; it was about reinventing Irth to meet its original promise and beyond. We created a sleek new interface, added all the features users had been longing for, and ensured the app could now be accessed seamlessly across iOS and Android.
The results spoke for themselves. With the new features in place and an intuitive user experience, Irth quickly gained traction, earning praise and positive reviews across the App Store and Play Store and made it to the “Featured App lists”. Users appreciated the ease of writing and reading reviews, while the enhanced experience helped build a supportive community like never before. This shift marked a turning point, and there was no looking back.
Today, Irth has grown far beyond what it once was, reaching thousands of users across the globe. Agicent's role went beyond development; we understood Irth’s mission from the ground up and built a scalable architecture that seamlessly connected the back end with the front end. We also developed a powerful admin console, giving the Irth team complete control to manage the app, users, and content effortlessly. What began as a basic concept App has now evolved into a robust platform empowering women to share their experiences and advocate for better maternity care. Together, Agicent and Irth have not just built an app; we've created a movement for health equity, one story at a time.
